This month, Welspun Global Brands Ltd. announced that the new tracking process, Wel-Trak™, has been patented. Wel-Trak™ provides transparency, authenticity and information captured in real-time about the source of textile products.
Wel-Trak™ tags the fiber at the source and stores the information on each tag on a unique, proprietary database. The fiber is tracked through every textile production stage. • Welspun earns Made In Green by OEKO-TEX® label for bed and bath textiles.
Welspun has been awarded Made In Green by OEKO-TEX®, the traceable consumer sustainability label that indicates that textiles have been tested for harmful substances and manufactured in environmentally and socially responsible facilities. Welspun is the first manufacturer in India to earn this label for both bed and bath products.
To qualify for the label, Welspun products underwent independent testing, according to the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which verifies that the textiles are free from dangerous levels of chemical substances. In addition, Welspun facilities were evaluated and certified to the STeP by OEKO-TEX® standard that confirms that manufacturing processes comply with multiple guidelines for sustainable textile production.
“Welspun’s leadership will help influence others to join the industry’s efforts to make textiles safer for consumers, workers, and the environment,” says George Dieners, OEKO-TEX® general secretary.
Consumers can enter a product’s unique ID code on the Made In Green website or scan the label’s QR code with smartphones. These links authenticate the Made In Green label and provide visibility into the production stream.

Lenzing Releases Sustainability Snapshots, Expands TENCEL® Production

Lenzing has released three Sustainability Snapshots booklets that present the sustainability benefits of Lenzing® fibers at a glance, all available at “TENCEL® For Textile Products,” “TENCEL® For Nonwoven Products” and “Lenzing Modal® – Softness By Edelweiss® Fiber Technology.”
According to Lenzing, TENCEL® fibers for textiles, TENCEL® fibers for nonwoven products and Lenzing Modal® are “net benefit products,” meaning they offer positive impacts and benefits to environment, society and value chain partners that are substantially better than most competing alternatives.
For example, TENCEL® is the renewable wood-based fiber made with resource-efficient closed-loop technology. Green technology production processes give TENCEL® a low carbon footprint. TENCEL® fibers are fully biodegradable under soil and marine conditions and are compostable.
Fiber benefits include excellent moisture management, enhanced longevity and durability, silky touch and luster, and a smooth fiber surface. As revealed in a chart in the “TENCEL® For Textile Products” booklet, TENCEL® fibers have a more positive environmental impact compared to market alternatives, such as generic lyocell, generic viscose, conventional cotton and polyester.
On a broader scale, the Lenzing Group aims to increase the share of specialty fibers as a percentage of revenue to 50 percent by 2020. Following expansion plans for Lenzing in Heiligenkreuz, Austria, and in Grimsby, U.K., the Supervisory Board of Lenzing AG approved in December 2016 the investment for a TENCEL® fiber plant in the U.S. in Mobile, AL. The new U.S. facility will be the largest TENCEL® fiber plant in the world and is scheduled to start operation in the first quarter of 2019.
Most recently in June 2017, plans have been announced to build the next state-of-the-art facility to produce lyocell fibers in Prachinburi near Bangkok in Thailand with completion scheduled for the end of 2020.
“With Asia accounting for 70 percent of total Lenzing Group revenue, it is logical that we will construct the next production plant for TENCEL® fibers in Asia,” says Lenzing ceo, Stefan Doboczky.

What’s Linacel?

During N.Y. Market, Premier Fine Linens showcases Linacel, a blend of linen and lyocell in a fabric that projects the appearance of linen, yet embodies the soft hand of lyocell. Linen can absorb a fair amount of moisture without feeling unpleasantly damp to the skin, unlike cotton. Linen is a durable, strong fabric and one of the few that is stronger wet than dry. The fibers do not stretch and are resistant to damage from abrasion. Main characteristics of lyocell fibers are that they are soft, absorbent, strong when wet or dry and resistant to wrinkles. This blend of lyocell and linen includes properties well-suited for bedding in terms of performance and comfort. Linacel is eco-friendly and OEKO-TEX certified. Premier Fine Linens, +91-422-2221223,
