Kathy Fielder (KF Design | Life | Style, email@example.com, kathyfielder.com) is a designer, manufacturer, philanthropist, wife, mother of two and more. She manufactures luxury home goods for the Isabella Collection out of her Dallas, TX workshop, KF Design | Life | Style. The IC Linen Co by Kathy Fielder offers goods tailored to the masses and Fielder Home is a QVC exclusive line. Her design clients have spanned residential and hospitality sectors. Here are insights into her prolific career.
How did you start working in the design field?
“I went to work out of college with a designer, but oddly I was working for her doing accounting! It was the only position she had available. A couple of years later, I started my own studio and have been designing ever since. I’ve owned seven design-based companies since the age of 23. It is a passion for me. Besides my family, it is one of the things that gives me pure joy and pleasure.”
Why did you choose to make products in the U.S.?
“In the Dallas workshop, we produce bedding, window treatments, decorative pillows, tabletop, holiday and even some fashion, such as vests and clutches. It’s important to me to shop local and by having my production based domestically, I am able to help further that ideal. I think it is important to boost one’s local economy, provide jobs and give back to the community.”
[Fielder works with the Ahadi Collective of refugee women and currently employs one of its artisans.] “I also think part of what makes you successful is teaching others what you have learned. The art of cutting and sewing is not near as prevalent as it once was in the U.S., so it is very important to help educate and train new artisans.”
How does Fielder Home differ from Isabella Collection?
“Isabella Collection by Kathy Fielder is my original collection that is cut, sewn and shipped out of my Dallas manufacturing studio. It is handmade and very bespoke. My mother, Mary, is actually the head patternmaker for the line. Fielder Home is a collection specific to QVC and is designed to meet an exceptional price point, while still having a luxe, designer, well thought out appeal.”
Are you looking to expand product licenses?
“Absolutely. We are currently talking about rugs, a unique line of decorative pillows, throws, bath, accessories and sheeting. We are also developing a hospitality line that will cater to boutique hotels.”
