Cruelty Free Silk

The company’s “peace silk” does not involve boiling the silk worm in its cocoon, unlike conventional silk processing. Instead, the silk is harvested after the moth has emerged and flown away. It is then hand spun and woven on locally produced bamboo looms by indigenous women artisans. The pillow fronts are made with 100 percent peace silk; the cover backs are 100 percent cotton canvas. Each pillow includes a hidden zipper and a U.S.-made insert. The 18- by 18-inch pillows are offered in two color ranges: Soft Tones (one shown) and Sophisticated Color Tones. Lightweight Wonder

The Pera towel, the company’s bestseller around the world, combines tradition with innovation. It is named after the famous Ottoman bath rituals and is made with 100 percent, long-staple Turkish cotton in a technologically modern process that creates special yarns. Open fibers on the yarns achieved in the cotton spinning achieve a larger surface area. Consequently, though the soft towels look plush and bulky, they are lighter in weight, but with the superior absorbency that only a heavier towel could previously have had. The lighter weight also translates into the ability to wash and dry the towel more energy efficiently. Hamam, 646-590-3891, hamam.eu/en
