Kaleen Opens Georgia Facility,

On Jan. 10, 2012, Kaleen had a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its new facility in Dalton, GA. The state-of-the-art building, which spans more than 125,000 square feet, houses the North America management team, along with customer service and distribution departments.

The ribbon cutting ceremony also signaled the start of the Kaleen Sales Summit 2012, in which the entire Kaleen sales team was brought together for the 2011 awards dinner and to kick off the 2012 sales year. Grey Christie was named the 2011 Sales Associate of the Year, Bill Mitcheson received the Special Products Award and Darryl Ernst earned the prestigious Breakthrough Award.

Kaleen was selected as a Rug Center winner of the AmericasMart Visual Display Awards presented during the Atlanta International Rug Market, held Jan. 12 to 15, 2012. The Visual Display Awards recognizes excellence in visual presentation, use of space, product placement and overall composition. Judging was conducted and winners selected by independent design and retail visual merchandising experts.

Only four showrooms from a total of 33 permanent showrooms and exhibitors in 18 temporary product collections, plus Best of Show Temporaries, received AmericasMart’s Visual Display Award.

“Kaleen is honored to have such an esteemed group of designers and experts select our showroom as among the best in a venue filled with such remarkable showrooms,” comments Joe Barkley, Kaleen’s executive vice president.

Though Kaleen’s parent company was founded in India in 1964, 2012 will mark Kaleen’s 15th year in America.

Surya launched the angelo:HOME line from celebrity designer Angelo Surmelis in January during Las Vegas Market. The 22-piece collection (one of which is shown at right) is an extension of Surmelis’ affordable style brand, with prices ranging from $49 to $599.
“We are delighted to have Angelo join us,” says Satya Tiwari, president, Surya Rugs. “He has a unique sense of color and design that make his product stand out in the industry. The trendy colors he uses with simple, elegant styles will add a diverse look to our existing product mix.”

On Jan. 31, 2012, Surya announced its first Designer’s Choice Sweepstakes, which it promoted on the company’s Facebook page. Surya’s 30,000+ fans were invited to vote for their favorite design among ten pre-production sketches on the Surya fan page through March 8.

The winning design will go into production. Participants had the chance to win the Grand Prize of a designer rug valued up to $999; a First Prize of a $250 American Express Gift Card and a Second Prize of a $100 American Express Gift Card.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our fans to participate in our design process. All our designs have life and energy to them, but with our fans speaking, this adds a whole new dimension to our products,” says Tiwari.

On Feb. 2, 2012, Surya announced the launch of its iPad and iPhone app. The app allows retailers, designers and consumers an easy-to-use, inspiring medium to browse Surya’s rugs, pillows, wall art and poufs.
“Surya products have intricate, hand-woven design elements, and the new app allows people to experience products in a more intimate and convenient way,” says Tiwari. “The zoom-in functionality, for example, helps people see our products’ finer details, which is just not possible to appreciate fully on the web.”

The Surya app is free and can be downloaded from the Surya iTunes page for iPad and iPhone usage. The app will be available for Android devices soon.
