Setting The Pace
By Wanda Jankowski

Area rugs can set the style for the entire room. Here are new designs—many on view during the Summer Atlanta and Las Vegas Markets—that reflect trends popular with today’s consumers

Irresistible Ikats
One of the longest-running trends is ikat patterns that reflect the interest in exotic cultures, and folkloric and tribal motifs
The Vista Collection, made with 100 percent polyester and machine printed in China, includes a variety of floral, paisley and ikat (shown) designs in striking colors. Some designs also feature hand carving for added dimension. Nourison, 800-223-1110, nourison.com

The Sagano Collection includes Mystsic Haze, shown in azure. Hand-knotted in India, the rugs feature a 100 percent hand-spun pile made with eco-friendly bamboo (select designs also include wool highlights). Sagano rugs use the Indo-Nepalese weave to create transitional and contemporary patterns, from ikat motifs to florals. Sagano rugs have a distinctive water-color effect that adds a muted glow to the surface. Couristan, Inc., 800-223-6186, couristan.com

Liora Manné
Coastal Stripe is made with Liora Manné’s patented Lamontage™ process in which synthetic fibers are intricately structured and layered by hand, then mechanically interlocked by needle-punching to create the design. The material is then treated with a special finish that includes antimicrobial nano-silver particles that will never wash out. This increases durability and prevents the growth of mold and mildew, making it suited for high-trafficked areas or indoor/outdoor use. Coastal Stripe is available as an area rug, but also as a table runner, table mat and fabric. Liora Manné, 212-989-2732, lioremanne.com
